Shore based Training elements have been driven by new technology and Regulatory changes such as MLC 2006, STCW Amendments, within the Maritime Domain which facilitate safe and efficient handling of ship board operations and ensure that standards set by marine forums such as OCIMF and other inspection regimes are met. They also ensure that lessons learnt from Accidents and Incidents are discussed and understood and Best Management Practices inducted. Shore based courses are key to personnel development, especially in the realm of knowledge and skill up-gradation of seafaring personnel. Changes to STCW and other international regulations have ensured that this component of maritime education is set to get more rigorous and demanding. New value added courses and competency based courses are expected to increase in the coming years. Keeping abreast and ensuring that personnel have adequately acquired knowledge will be the key.
